Award-Winning Café Handed Over to Local Community
Management of the Castle Douglas TLC café has been given to the Parish Church as part of a scheme by Alcohol and Drugs support South West Scotland (ADS).
ADS launched the program three years ago to help those in recovering from drug and/or alcohol abuse. The busy café is now well-loved by the community. The success has since spread, with similar cafes opening in Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright.
The scheme received a boost in funding after communities voted for more of the anti-poverty budget to be spent on the cafés.
Each of the cafés serve tasty, healthy food for a small donation, as well as having a food bank supported by donations from local supermarkets. The idea is that members of the community facing financial difficulty can visit the café and receive a healthy meal or food to take home for a small price.
There are further plans to partner with the Station House Cookery School to offer free cooking classes.
