£800m Business rate bill may be last straw for thousands of pubs

The British Beer & Pub Association has responded to the business rate review calling for an urgent roll-out of sector price relief to ensure pubs confronted with an average of £25.000-a-bill don't miss the last hurdle to their rebound after the lockdown.

Nearly a quarter of pubs, bars and other licensed outlets were still closed late last month, new figures show. While numbers are expected to pick up during the autumn months, many operators may continue to delay reopening or be forced into making difficult decisions on where they are able to operate profitably.
