Pub Group chairman says bars role in spreading Covid is widely misunderstood

Wetherspoon pub company chief executive Tim Martin says the role of pubs in promoting Covid-19 has been "widely misunderstood."

The company said all Wetherspoon pubs did not reveal any positive tests. Most of the reported cases were mild or asymptomatic and 28 of the 66 workers have already returned to work after self-isolating themselves, based on medical regulations.

This announced by the company followed concern last month that the chain had failed to avoid overcrowding in its pubs, which are popular with young people because of their comparatively low prices of drink and food. During that time, 66 out of the 41,564 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus.
