Second Time Unlucky? Handmade Burger Co. Falls into Administration, Resulting in 283 Job Losses

Friday, January 24, 2020

Handmade Burger Co has officially fallen into administration with an immediate job loss of all 283 jobs, having failed to secure a last-minute rescue sale.  18 restaurants in the UK have now closed.

However, this isn’t the first time the company has found itself in this position, having first fell into administration in 2017, with nine site closures as part of an insolvency process.  The business was able to continue trading after a buyer was found for the remaining 20 sites.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save the brand, as sales have almost halved during the last few years, making it unsustainable.  This comes down to the fact that the casual dining market has changed massively, and there has been a result of overcapacity within the sector, resulting in a number of insolvencies.
